![]() The realignment brings a number of former 4A heavyweights into 3A, like Dudley, Hillside, EE Smith, Charlotte Catholic, others. Should be interesting here in the Durham and Orange County area. NCHSAA has a draft of the new conferences for the 2017 realignment. As it is now they will at least maintain long time rivalries with West Johnston and Clayton as well as former conference members South Johnston and SSS. I would have loved to see East Wake go into the Big East with the Nash and Wilson County schools as that is an outstanding football conference. ![]() Being added to the conference of the 3-time defending champs cannot be good news. Lake Norman and Mooresville were added to the Mallard Creek conference. I do hope they don't add back Person as a nine team league just doesn't leave enough football scheduling flexibility. Other sports are a mixed bag but this will be a heckuva a baseball conference with Orange, Northern, and the Chapel Hill squads. If you're a Big 8 member you're replacing Northern Vance and Webb with Northern Durham and Hillside and if you are PAC 6 you're replacing Person and Jordan with Southern and Orange. ![]() Posts: No matter which way you look at it this conference will be tougher. QUOTE Report as abuse There is a big difference between driving to an away game in Wake Co and heading over to Sanford, or Carthage. Those will be two good compact conferences. The 4th Harnett school (4A Overhills) joining Cumberland schools works well also. It that conference stays as proposed it makes a lot of sense with the Harnett schools, the two Lee County schools and Moore County's Union Pines. It is good to see 3 of the 4 Harnett County schools together in 3A again.
